Avni Spahiu
Avni SPAHIU – diplomat, publicist, përkthyes, lindi në Mitrovicë. Shkollimin fillor e të mesëm e kreu në Mitrovicë dhe SHBA, ndërsa studimet e larta për gjuhë dhe letërsi angleze dhe master të letërsisë në Universitetin e Prishtinës. Në diplomaci hyri si Ambasadori i parë i Republikës së Kosovës në Uashington (2008-2012) dhe pastaj si Ambasador i
Jashtëzakonshëm dhe Fuqiplotë i Republikës së Kosovës në Ankara (2012-1219), si dhe ambasador jorezident për Pakistan dhe Jordani. Për shumë vite punoi si gazetar i së përditshmes “Rilindja”, reporter, korrespondent në Nju-Jork, redaktor dhe kryeredaktor i
“Rilindjes” (1994-1998). Ishte kryeredaktor dhe drejtor i Televizionit të Kosovës dhe i Radios (2000-2008). Gjatë viteve 90, ishte bashkëthemelues dhe veprimtar i Këshillit për Mbrojtjen e Lirive dhe të Drejtave të Njeriut në Prishtinë.
Në këtë funksion ai mori pjesë nësesionet e OKB-së mbi të Drejtat e Njeriut në Gjenevë, para Komisionit të OKB-së të Drejtave të Njeriut, si dhe në tryeza dhe panele në kryeqytete të ndryshme europiane për çështje politike dhe të drejtat e njeriut. Ishte këshilltar dhe bashkëpunëtor i Presidentit Ibrahim Rugova në periudhën e lëvizjes së rezistencës paqësore dhe shoqërues në udhëtimet
dhe takimet e tij diplomatike.
Në lëmin e publicistikës është autor i disa librave, prej të cilave Fan Noli – Jeta në Amerikë
(2005 – botuar edhe në anglisht 2009), Nobelistët e letërsisë (2007), Skica amerikane (Libër esesh nga Shtetet e Bashkuara – 2015), “Faqe miqësie” – 2018), si dhe librin nga përvoja e tij diplomatike si Ambasador i Jashtëzakonshëm dhe Fuqiplotë i Kosovës në
Uashington, “Misioni i parë”.
Ka përkthyer mbi 30 vepra të botuar të letërsisë dhe mendimit perëndimor, ndër më të
njohurat nga anglishtja Majat e Shalës të Rose Wilder Lane (1994), “Pajtimi – Islami dhe Perëndimi i Benazir Butos, “Zbulimi i Lirisë” – Rose Wilder Lane, etj., si dhe përmbledhje të poezisë shqipe në anglisht, si Do you Come from Chameria (2005), The Split Stone
(2006), Teach me to Love (2007), etj. Ai gjithashtu ka përkthyer poezi të shkruara nga
poetë britanikë dhe amerikanë. Ishte bashkëthemelues dhe nënkryetar i PEN Qendrës së
Kosovës.

Avni SPAHIU – diplomat, publicist, translator – was born in Mitrovica. He completed his primary and secondary education in Mitrovica and the USA, while his higher studies in English language and literature and his master of literature at the University of Prishtina.
He entered diplomacy as the first Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo in Washington (2008-2012) and then as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kosovo to Ankara (2012-1219), as well as a non-resident ambassador to Pakistan and Jordan.
For many years he worked as a journalist for the daily Rilindja, as a reporter, correspondent in New York, editor and editor-in-chief of Rilindja” (1994-1998). He was the editor-in-chief and director of Kosovo Television and Radio (2000-2008). During the 90s, he was co-founder and activist of the Council for the Protection of Freedoms and Human Rights in Prishtina. In this capacity he participated in the UN sessions on Human Rights in Geneva, before the UN Commission on Human Rights, as well as in roundtables and panels in various
European capitals on political issues and human rights.
He was an advisor and collaborator to President Rugova during the period of the peaceful resistance movement and accompanied
him on his travels and diplomatic meetings.
He is the author of several books, of which Fan Noli – Life in America(published by Kosovo Pen in 2005 – also published in English 2009), Nobel Laureates in Literature (2007), “American Sketches (Essay Book from the United States – 2015), “Friendship Page
– 2018), as well as the book from his diplomatic experience as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kosovo to Washington, The First Mission Has translated over 30 published works of Western literature and thought, including the best- known English The Peaks of Shala by Rose Wilder Lane (1994), Reconciliation – Islam and the West by Benazir Bhutto, “Discovery of Freedom – Rose Wilder Lane, etc., as well as collections of Albanian poetry in English, such as Do you Come from Chameria (2005), The Split Stone (2006), Teach me to Love (2007), etc. He has also translated poems written by British and American poets. He was co-founder and Vice President of the PEN
Center of Kosovo.
